Mothers are fiercely protective.
But who has not seen jealousy and envy rear its ugly head? I enjoy a perverse kind of pleasure in seeing certain people fail as well.
If you think I was/am a high achiever, you should meet Ern Sheong. (Now this crazy guy googles his own name periodically so he will find my blog some day. I don’t think he is easily offended though, he is a good guy.) I hate it that he is so driven, that he achieves so much. When I see a flaw in him I gain satisfaction. Yes, too bad, Ern Sheong, I do. But we’re still friends yeah. ;)
So, it’s okay if people are happy to see me meet a “major failure” for the first time in my life. You know what, at the end of the day, all my hardships will give me an experience far more enriching than that of the usual student. I might not have my As, but I will gain more than your rigid knowledge attained by incessant studying.
And I am saying this without any spite.
